Billing Specialist

Job Description:

Position Summary:
The Billing Specialist enters charge data and posts payments in a timely manner, requesting missing information to ensure proper billing and coding.
Primary Duties and Responsibilites include the following:
- 1. Assists data entry team with charge entry processes.
2.Works ImageNow queues and requests missing demographics and reports as needed.
3. Works hospital logs and requests missing demographics as needed.
4.Provides assistance with group bill payment posting and charge entry.
5. Assists with scanning or manual demographics and reports.
6.Distributes incoming billing office faxes.
7. Assists with return mail and the mailing of secondary claims as needed.
8. Runs and works GPMS pending lists.
9. Works assigned receivables on the follow-up team.
10. Provides additional phone coverage in the follow-up area when needed.
11. Covers front desk responsibilities when needed.
12. Provides additional backup coverage for the Outside Contract Coordinator and Outside Physicians Assistant.
13. Works special projects as assigned.
14. Assists follow-up team with the posting of correspondence as needed.
15. Maintains confidentiality of company and client information.
16. Reacts productively to change.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED; a minimum of six (6) months experience in healthcare billing; and/or equivalent education or experience in job related activities is required.

Ability to speak, hear, see, sit, stoop and bend; ability to speak, read and write in English; good interpersonal, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills; good written and oral communication skills; ability to use PC and office equipment; good dexterity; ability to make mathematical computations; multitasking skills; knowledge of IDX’s Groupcast or other practice management systems; knowledge of Document-Imaging systems and processes; knowledge of patient accounts policies, patient accounts receivable systems, medical billing practices and reimbursement, insurance industry and billing procedures; skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
